In production, electrolyzers—alkaline, PEM, and AEM—are equipped with pressure relief valves, temperature sensors, and automatic shutdown systems to prevent overheating or pressure buildup. These systems undergo rigorous testing to comply with standards like IEC 62282 and ISO 14687. For storage, metal hydride systems eliminate high-pressure risks by chemically bonding hydrogen to metals, releasing it only when heated, while high-pressure tanks (35MPa/70MPa) are constructed from impact-resistant composites, tested for fire and collision resistance in accordance with UN ECE R134. Liquid hydrogen tanks use multi-layer insulation and pressure management to prevent excessive boil-off.
