Magnesium-based (Mg-based) hydride tanks from Hyto Energy offer a cost-effective, abundant solution for hydrogen storage, leveraging magnesium’s high hydrogen capacity (up to 7.6 wt%). These tanks use Mg alloys (often mixed with nickel or aluminum) to overcome pure magnesium’s slow reaction kinetics and high desorption temperature. Hyto engineers the alloys to absorb/desorb hydrogen at 200-300°C—manageable with waste heat from fuel cells or industrial processes—making them suitable for stationary storage (homes, factories) and heavy-duty vehicles. Mg-based tanks are lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and lower-cost than rare metal-based alternatives. While not ideal for low-temperature applications, their high capacity and affordability make them a sustainable choice for large-scale, moderate-temperature hydrogen storage, supported by Hyto’s ongoing alloy optimization.
